The Spirit And Dancin' Nancy

As you know, I write articles for The Spirit Newspaper. Occasionally, I have no idea what to write about. With this week's story finished and waiting to be published, I was already wondering what I would write about next week.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are Chorus days for Alayna, and I have to take her to school. So, as I left the house this morning, I grabbed my notebook and the camera...you just never know when you might run up on a story.
The day went by, and nothing especially struck me as story material. I had one last stop, and as I turned off of the highway, there she was...Lady Liberty, dancing her little heart out. For the past couple of years, this amazing little lady has stood at this intersection, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, dancing and waving at passersby. She is a live advertisement for Liberty Tax Service. Everyone who has been to Rincon has seen this lady...and everyone loves her!  In 85 degree or 45 degree weather, she is out there!
I got the idea that she would be an awesome interview, so I wrote a note and handed it to her out of the window as I passed by. When I got home, she called! I absolutely cannot wait to interview Dancin' Nancy tomorrow!
Two things that God brought to my mind as I drove home. First, this lady has spirit. Her spirit is why everyone talks about her. Her spirit is why everyone loves her...she is fun, flamboyant, fabulous...she is like a cheerleader! You cannot ignore such enthusiasm as you pass by. You can't resist smiling...for whatever reason...whether you think she is silly, whether you were entertained or just returning a smile and wave from her. You gotta love her as she busts some moves, lovin' what she does!
Next, I think about how free she is in what she does. I mean, she really digs what she does and she doesn't care what you think! As she dances to music, she also dances to her own drum...the beat of her heart. What's that phrase? I think that it goes... "Dance like no one is looking." She does that...she looks like she lives it and breathes it and that nothing is going to stop her! She is so free!
We, as Christians, could take a couple of lessons from Dancin' Nancy. We need to be enthusiastic about our faith and our relationship with Jesus. Remember David? He was passionate about his love and worship of God...and he danced! We need to be living our Christian lives on purpose, and our walk of faith should be one that is noticably different from that of the world. We should be sharing the joy of our salvation, wearing a smile, and sharing our faith. When people see us, they should know WHO we are...not because of what we are wearing, but because of our joy and freedom in Christ.
We should be walking unashamedly, without regard to what any man thinks towards us. We should be listening to the One who placed the heart within us to beat by Him and for Him. Both our walk and our works should be fruitful and a reflection our faith and love for Jesus Christ.
Matthew 7:17 says, "Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit," and Matthew 7:20 says, "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
I guarantee you that Dancin' Nancy is known for what she is doing and not so much what she is wearing. In fact, my neighbor saw her in front of another business recently. Nancy was not Lady Liberty...she was wearing a different costume, but there is no doubt that it was Nancy...she was just-a-dancin'!
In our brief conversation tonight, she said, "Yeah, I can't go anywhere that someone doesn't recognize me." If people recognize her when she isn't dressed up and she isn't dancin', I'll bet it's her smile!
     Smile, God loves You!

Be blessed in Jesus' Name,
Angie
