It has been so long since I wrote this that I had forgotten all about it. When I came across it and read it, it ministered to me, so I thought I would share it. If I can encourage you to do anything, it would be to keep a journal of your spiritual journey...
At the time I wrote this, I was managing a thrift store where we shared Christ. It was an awesome job, and I met some amazing people...I hope you enjoy this little story.
The Little Things In Life…
A pair of earrings in the tray on the counter caught my eye. They were leaf-shaped with five rhinestones in each. They were so pretty for fall! I gazed at them several times over the course of a couple of weeks. No one ever bought them. So, on half-price day, I purchased them. I really didn’t need them, I just liked them.
When I brought the earrings home, I tried matching them to a couple of different outfits, but they just didn’t go with anything I had. I even wondered why I had bought them. Who would have ever thought that God had a plan!
Within a day or so, a dear lady who often shops in the store came in. She was looking through the earrings, and I asked if I could help her. She explained that she was searching for a pair of earrings that she had really liked, but could not find them. I proceeded to ask her what they looked like so that I could help her. She began to describe the earrings that I had purchased…this was definitely a “God moment”! Right away, I knew why I had purchased them…they were for her. She is always buying things for other people, and this time, God wanted her to have something for herself.
I told her that I knew exactly the earrings that she was describing, and agreed that they were quite pretty. Then I commented that just maybe she would come across some earrings similar to those one day.
It is amazing to think about God can use us to minister to others. Perhaps if I had not bought them myself that day, someone else would have. Now, it would turn out that God could use me in blessing her.
The very next day, I excitedly shared with my co-worker what I knew God wanted me to do. I had placed the earrings in small, gray pouch, which would be given to her when she left the store that day.
Hours passed, and finally, she came in. As my co-worker rang up her purchase, she was given the small gray pouch that contained the gift that God arranged for her to have. I cannot help but think of Psalms 145:19, “He will fulfill the desire of them that fear Him:…”, and marvel at His works. How great is our God!
I know that this may seem to be just one of those “little things in life.” But for me, it was an affirmation during a time and season of my life. It was an affirmation of the place and purpose that God chose to act on His will and to fulfill promises. It was more than just a little thing…it was God’s Presence. It was more than just a pair of earrings, it was His voice in a deaf world. It was His arms reaching out to someone who He loves very much….
Be Blessed In Jesus' Name,
Angie
