THE GPS System

The other day, as I listened to Christian radio, a preacher came across the air with a very interesting acronym…GPS, meaning…God, People, Self. (It used to be JOY…Jesus, Others, and You.)

Prioritization in life plays an important role in realizing happiness. Many people believe that as long as they place others first that they will reap the return benefits of happiness and fulfillment. Their primary interest may be taking care of others, but they fail to realize that God doesn’t need them to take charge, but instead, to have a heart of servitude and willingness in becoming part of accomplishing His will.

Sometimes we take matters into own hands, not necessarily seeking to honor God, or give Him the glory. Helping others may actually sometimes become a selfish endeavor, because it “feels good“. It is a form of self-gratification. When this happens, we are definitely on the wrong track, because God is not in it. We can become prideful and sometimes boastful, even if we keep the “good deed” to ourselves.

Before we can truly help others in the manner in which they need help, we must lay aside all things and focus on God. It is under His guidance and direction that we become more effective in helping others. With God in control, we will never have to doubt the direction of our life’s purpose. He is our ultimate guidance system.

John 16:13 says, “Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come.” Through the Holy Spirit, God guides His own. Psalms 23:3... “…He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”

He is my Savior and my Guide…Amen.
