On Wednesday night, my family and I were
enjoying an episode of the singing competition, American Idol. One of the
contestants came out singing and dancing in the most adorable pair of hot pink
shoes. It is difficult to remember what she sang, because all I remember is
saying over and over, “Look at her shoes! They are soooooo cute! I love her
shoes!”…almost wishing that I could get away with wearing something like that.
The next day, I had to go to town. I had
an appointment and needed a few things, one of which was a blind for a window.
One of my blinds had seen its last day and needed to be replaced. I had
remembered seeing many blinds, some new, at a local thrift store, so I decided
to stop by and see if I could find one and save a little money. They had no
blinds, so I decided to look around.
As I entered the area of the store where
they had clothes and shoes, I immediately spotted a pair of hot pink shoes…in
my size! They looked practically new, so I tried them on. They were a perfect
fit, and only $2!
Anyone who knows this soon-to-be 50
year-old mom knows good and well that I don’t do “flashy”…but, they were so
cute! This pair of hot pink shoes was no coincidence. I felt like God was
saying to me, “Well, I heard you say that you liked the hot pink shoes, so here
you go, girl!” Needless to say, I could not resist!
God saw me in something I liked, although
I never thought was “my style”. I would have never envisioned myself in a pair
of hot pink shoes, but He did. The
things that I could never imagine myself doing, He CAN…and we read in His Word, “I can do all things through Christ,
who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
He sees us stepping into His plan, and has
gone before us, making a way…He sees our end from our beginning, and it IS good! And sometimes, just sometimes,
just to tickle our fancy, He shows us that we can get away with anything He
wants us to be able to get away with…like wearing hot pink shoes.
God is calling His people to be something
different in this world...a ‘peculiar’ people.
I Peter 2:9 says, "Ye are a
chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of
darkness into his marvellous
light."
Seek His
purpose for your life. He may be leading you into a different season. Maybe
it’s something that you never thought you could do. Maybe it’s somewhere you
have never thought you could go. Maybe it’s just a call to “stand up and stand
out”! (My little girl’s favorite quote.) Listen for His voice, trust Him. He is
the God of all things…even the God of Hot Pink Shoes! :o)
Be blessed, In Jesus' Name,
Angie
