"Fishing" for Memories

Today, an older lady and I were talking about how difficult it can be to remember names. We agreed that it is easy to recognize people that we have met or know, but that it can often be a challenge to put a name with the face.

During the conversation, she mentioned that she had heard that the memory of a goldfish is three seconds. She and the lady next to her laughed and expressed that the trying mental tasks for the aged could be called “goldfish moments”.

Just the night before, my husband and I had discussed a time when we went somewhere together that I had apparently forgotten. It was supposedly a memorable event, but for some reason, I could not remember it as he did. “Are you sure that I was right there with you the whole time?” I asked. “Yes,” he replied. “You were right there with me.” Well, I really had to think about it…I wasn’t just having a “goldfish” moment, this event was so important, that I SHOULD HAVE remembered…I was having a “Chinese koi” moment…lol! (In case you are not familiar, koi are the very large colorful carp that people will sometimes put in decorative ponds.)

Well, not being able to really remember details of that event made me ask God this morning…  “LORD, what’s going on? Why can’t I seem to remember some things?” He whispered to my spirit, “Do you remember the last line of that song, ‘Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus’?”

“Yes,” I replied, and then started singing… “And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”

You know, as I follow Jesus, and as I seek to know His purposes and pursue His plan for my life, I have to honestly say that the things of this world matter less to me. I have too often seen that our own plans fail and that what we have purposed in our own hearts to accomplish is often vain.

Living in Christ is all that really matters… life in Jesus Christ is victorious. We celebrate and remember victories!

Finally, I have to share one favorite verse in Scripture… “God hath not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a SOUND MIND”!!! (II Timothy 1:7) I found this a comforting Scripture to quote when I had “goldfish” moments…now I can just say, “Glory, LORD!”

Be blessed in Jesus’ Name,

Angie
