Cain't Never Could

If you are reading this blog and you are from another country...you may have never heard this saying..."Cain't never could." It is a colloquial expression that I learned as a child which means...If you don't think that you can do something or are not willing to try, then it is something that you never will accomplish. If you are not from the South..."Cain't" is our expression for "can't or cannot".

As I was reading the story of Moses and the children of Israel in Exodus this morning, I realized just how much God went through with those "stiff-necked" people. They complained, complained, complained. They wanted to go back to Egypt. They were disobedient.

When Moses was up on Mount Sinai for forty days, they still had the cloud by the day, the fire by night and manna in the morning. God never relented in providing the needs of His people and His Presence remained. But then they began to wonder if Moses was going to come back. Without leadership, they forgot God, built a golden calf and began to worship the idol.

These people sinned against God over and over. Yet, even all of those things combined did not keep God from leading them towards the Promised Land. God is such a loving and forgiving God!

As they drew near to the land of Promise, Moses sent out Joshua and Caleb and ten other men as spies into the land.Ten of them, the majority of the men, came back with a fearsome report. There were giants in the land, and these ten men were able to convince the Israelites of their inability to defeat it's occupants. Only Joshua and Caleb believed in God's power and promises. This angered God and He did not allow an entire generation of the children of Israel to enter into His promises...

Fear brought on disbelief, and for this reason, the children of Israel would wander in the wilderness for 40 years. It is amazing to think that it was not the things that the Israelites did that kept them from receiving what God had planned to give to them, but it was their mindset and lack of trust in God that robbed them of their future. The "cain't" generation would die never having received what God had for them. I never really thought of it like this, but I guess you could say that this was a true example of "cain't never could".

"I can do all things through Him (Christ) Who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13 (NASB)

Have faith, be blessed...
In Jesus' Name,
