God is always speaking something new and exciting to me! The other day, as I was studying, He brought Psalm 23:6 to my attention... "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." He then began showing me something that I had never seen before.
"The word 'follow'...just look at that word,"... the Holy Spirit whispered, drawing me deeper. As I pondered on the word "follow", I asked myself, "How would I know if something were following me?" The answer...by turning around and looking behind me, of course!
Spiritually speaking, when I look "behind" or "back", I see my past. Everyone's past contains sin, disappointments, tragedies, missed opportunities, mistakes, and losses. However, if you are a Christian, you may now see things a little differently. Perhaps those things that were the "less desirable" things or events in life's past are hardly recognizable because the goodness and mercy of a loving God has transformed your life through His forgiveness, redemption, and restoration.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me..."is a statement that declares that God has made or will make a testimony out of the things of the past. "...shall follow me all the days of my life..." is an expression of faith and confidence that a testimony will also be received of life's future experiences.
For the first time in my life, I see the words of Psalm 23:6 as testimony! They are more than words that bring comfort and peace in the tough situations of life. They are an expression of what God has done and will do. The application of this spiritual truth edifies and encourages, and gives us strength for the days ahead! We can have confidence...we can be sure in knowing that whatever "was, is and will be" is in the hands of a good and merciful God, Who was, is and forever will be!
To God be the Glory...Great things He has done! Amen!
Be blessed in Jesus' Name,
Angie
