God revealed something so amazing to me this morning! Just when we think that we know and understand everything in detail concerning a story in the Bible, He opens our eyes of understanding to something totally new about the Scriptures. Yes, His Word is new everyday...it is the LIVING WORD OF GOD!
Last night, I read the story of Moses and the burning bush to a child. At the time, I did not see it, but God gave me fresh eyes this morning, and I received a new perspective on the story.
Moses feared that the children of Israel would not believe him whenever he would tell them that God had appointed him to lead them out of Egypt. "But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, 'The LORD has hot appeared to you.'" (Exodus 4:1) There were three miraculous signs that God allowed Moses to perform in order to convince the people that he was truly the man that God had chosen to lead them.
The first miracle that Moses would be able to perform through the power of God involved his rod. God commanded him to cast his rod on the ground, and it became a serpent. When he took it up, it again became a rod in his hand.
The second miracle in which God used Moses to display His power was one of healing. Next, God commanded Moses to place his hand inside of his bosom. When he removed it, it had become leprous. God instructed him to place it back inside of his garment, and when he drew it back out, it was restored...healed.
Finally, there was a third miracle that Moses performed through the power of God. In Exodus 4:9, God said to Moses, "And it shall be, if they do not believe even these two signs, or listen to your voice, that you shall take water from the river and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take from the river will become blood on the dry land."
Each of these miracles are prophetic representations of the power that Christ would have on Earth over sin, sickness and death. The serpent was symbolic of sin. Sickness was represented by the leprous hand. The water which became blood characterized life and death.
It is simply amazing that a prophetic picture of the power of Christ on Earth is revealed in this familiar Bible story! The miracles that were performed by Jesus displayed His power over sin, sickness and death. Though many believed, the majority of God's chosen people remained unconvinced that Jesus was the Messiah, sent by God to deliver, restore and redeem them.
Be Blessed in Jesus' Name,
Angie
