Waiting For A Child

As I mentioned before in my profile, I never set out to write...I never dreamed or envisioned it. It was God's direction for my life. Most of what He would have me write is inspirational, however once in a while something comical or totally uncharacteristic of me will come...and although the writing may not speak of God, it is of Him. He is the giver of life and gifts and matchless grace.

Children's books were the fartherest thing from my mind. However, when a publisher called one day and asked me to read her a sample of my work, a children's story seemed to be the quickest read that expressed creativity and imagination. I had no manuscript put together to send to her, because I didn't know how or what to do about putting together a book. After hearing the poem, she said, "I am sending you a contract." And the rest is history.

The firefly poems that were written over two years ago seemed to be the quickest thing for me to arrange into a book. I had written them one weekend after attending a book parade at my daughter's school. Ten little stories flowed from me over the matter of just a couple of days...then they sat in a notebook, waiting for a child.

Of course, there is a certain amount of time to "wait" in publishing, but God made it a relatively easy wait. I trust God. Whatever time passed during the process, He was preparing the way.

I believe that if we keep in mind that God is in control and submit to the Holy Spirit daily, then we realize His plan gently unfolding daily in our lives, and that the solid foundation that is laid by the Master is one that will weather all storms. During a period of waiting, God prepares and strengthens us with the might of His hand and the provision of His will.

As promised, I am adding a sample story from the book.I hope that you enjoy it and will share it with others. This little chapter is entitled "A Birthnight Party."

A party was planned
by four fireflies
for their friend, Freddie.
It would be a surprise!

They baked a big cake,
and they iced it with care,
but something was missing!
No candles were there!

Soon all of his friends
came up with a plan.
They would light on his cake
and stand on their hands!

That night, when he came
to the forest, he found
that he was alone!
No one was around!

“Surprise!” his friends shouted,
as they turned on their lights.
Freddie’s cake was lit up
With his friends shining bright!

A smile lit his face,
and he beamed head to toe.
The “Birthnight” party lasted
Until the sun's glow.
